AIGLE, Jun 22 (CP) - The UCI is targeting several cyclists it is refering to as "men in black", so called because these riders were not wearing team kits while training.

The UCI appears to be assuming these cyclists are training in anonymous jerseys to avoid detection by dope testing officials.

UCI anti-doping manager Ann Gripper said the UCI was tracking six or seven "big name" riders and subjecting them to extra drug tests. Gripper indicated some of the results of these tests were "non-negative", but the UCI would wait until the B samples were in before announcing any names or results.

Naturally, some riders are taking offense to these implications. Tour favorite Alexandre Vinokourov in particular said he was angered by the accusations. "If I train in a black jersey [...] it's because I want to avoid [...] cycling tourists."

With the Tour de France just two weeks away, it seems the UCI is trying for maximum impact on the sport, perhaps trying to create a situation like Operacion Puerto last year.
