Following the opening day bunch sprint finish, stage 2 of the Tour Down Under will see the tempo and the intensity of the race increase.
Starting off from Stirling, the peloton will spend the whole day riding around the Adelaide Hills. The stage profile highlights how tough a day this could be. The terrain is incessantly undulating and a rider feeling strong and having a good day could use this to their advantage.
After heading off from Striling, the first intermediate sprint comes after 15 kilometres of racing in Echunga. The riders head off in a loop before heading back into the small township for the KOM points.
The second and final sprint of the day takes place at the 64 km mark in the town of Balhannah which is part of a circuit that riders need to negotiate 5 times before finishing in Hahndorf.
All up, riders will have to cope with 148 kilometres of rolling terrain on a day that could prove decisive in finding an overall winner.
Mark Renshaw will be looking to defend his Ochre Jersey and his Credit Agricole team mates will have plenty of work to do if they are to succeed.
