AMOREBIETA, Apr 15 (CP) - Caisse d'Epargne rider Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver took the victory in Sunday's Klasika Primavera, ahead of his teammate Alejandro Valverde Belmonte and a chasing peloton.
The 171 kilometres long race consisted of a rather flat first 100 kilometres, followed by six hills before the final descent to the Spanish town of Amorebieta.
On the last climb of the day, Valverde and Rodriguez attacked and stayed ahead of the chasing peloton. At the finish, it was Rodriguez to cross the line first, ahead of the 2006 ProTour winner.
The peloton, with Matteo Bono taking the third spot, came in only eight seconds later.
