SAN REMO, Feb 18 (CP) - Team Milram's Mirco Lorenzetto has won the final stage in the Tour Mediterranéen, with its finish in San Remo, while José Ivan Gutierrez Palacios secured his overall victory.

The 122 kilometres long stage from Dolceacqua to San Remo had the same finish as in the Italian Classic Milano-San Remo. The famous climbs Cipressa and Poggio were included in the race schedule as well.

During the day, one man was to be found in the front: Cofidis rider Sylvain Chavanel. However, Caisse d'Epargne led the peloton for their leader Gutierrez, and soon, Tinkoff Credit Systems took over the chase to catch Chavanel.

Eventually, 40 riders sprinted for victory on the Via Roma, and, according to the finish photo, Lorenzetto turned out to have the best legs, at the expense of Lampre-Fondital's Daniele Bennati.

Gutierrez managed to take the final victory, leading the overall since the team's victory in the opening team time trial in Gruissan on Wednesday.
