Ivan Basso was excluded from the 2006 Tour de France because of a possible involvement in Operacion Puerto, the doping case around the Spanish sports doctor Eufemiano Fuentes.
After a tumultuous season, the Italian and Team CSC decided to split their ways. Basso moved to Johan Bruyneel's Discovery Channel and hopes to perform very well next season in order to clean his reputation.
