Alexandre Vinokourov tested positive for the use of blood doping after his impressive time trial win in Albi in the Tour de France. The Kazakh was immediately suspended by his team, which entirely left the French race.
Earlier in the race, Vinokourov crashed and lost quite some time. However, one week later he won both the long time trial and the King's stage to Loudenvielle-Le Louron.
